DFS Replication

DFS Replication

Windows Vista

Default Description

(Retail) Replicates files among multiple PCs keeping them in sync. On Client, it is used to roam folders between PCs; on server, it is used to provide high availability and local access across a wide area network (WAN). If the service is stopped, file replication does not occur, and the files on the server become out-of-date. If the service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will not start.
(Service Pack 1+) Enables you to synchronize folders on multiple servers across local or wide area network (WAN) network connections. This service uses the Remote Differential Compression (RDC) protocol to update only the portions of files that have changed since the last replication.

Additional Information

This service is installed by default, but if not needed, you may uninstall under Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off > Uncheck “Windows DFS Replication Service”.
